About the Digital Products team: The Planned Parenthood Digital Products team provides reliable and scalable applications and technology programs and services in support of health care delivery, sex education, advocacy, fundraising, and internal operations. This past year we were awarded the World's Most Innovative Company in Education from Fast Company.
The Scrum Master, Digital Products, will lead 1-2 scrum teams through a scrum process and ceremonies to deliver digital features and services for PPFA’s website ecosystem: PlannedParenthood.org and PlannedParenthoodAction.org. The Scrum Master will act as the servant leader and coach for the team(s), and is critical to team success. This role focuses on delivering value to the end user while striving for continuous improvement in our working process and culture. The position will report to the Associate Director, Administration and Project Management, Digital Products, in the Healthcare Division (HCD) of PPFA. HCD provides national frameworks for the delivery of health care and education to our patients, digital users, and supporters across the country.
Purpose (Measure of Success): The Scrum Master will be successful when, as part of a larger community of agile practitioners, they advocate for and bring to life agile best practices. The Scrummaster will form high-functioning dedicated agile team(s), manage outside interference, remove impediments, facilitate scrum ceremonies, drive continuous improvement and promote healthy agile practices (with dynamics of support and value-driven delivery).

DELIVERY

  • Managing the delivery of digital features and products, while guiding team(s) to agile maturity. The Scrum Master will ensure their team(s) understands scrum frameworks, practices and values, as well as core agile concepts such as the manifesto and principles. The scrum master will continuously assess the scrum maturity of the team, and take ownership to improve team performance and effectiveness. The scrum master will identify skill and knowledge gaps, and create workshops, artifacts, and action plans to close the gap and create learning opportunities for the team.
  • Leading scrum ceremonies (daily stand-up, sprint planning, backlog elaboration/grooming, sprint demo/review, and retrospective meetings) and facilitating other meetings as needed with 1-2 globally dispersed, cross-functional digital product teams.
  • Establishing and maintaining psychological safety by building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving. The Scrum Master will provide frameworks and guidance to resolve conflicts for issues that occur.
  • Guiding the Product Manager/Director and team in identifying risks and mitigation strategies, empowering them to self-organize, and assisting as needed while the team matures. The Scrum Master will additionally be responsible for removing impediments by identifying the right resource to collaborate with and escalating impediments as needed.
  • Escalating impediments to peers, stakeholders, and senior leaders for resolution.
  • Reporting on work progress, team performance, impediments, and priorities in a variety of meetings and written contexts including a weekly scrum-of-scrums, quarterly division meetings, and varying team and division written status reports.
  • Sharing agile learnings and best practices with fellow Digital Products team Scrum Masters, to develop department-wide consistency and resources.
  • Maintaining Jira reporting to accurately reflect the scrum teams’ work process, priorities, velocity, user stories, and acceptance criteria.

ENGAGEMENT

  • Collaborative process leader for 1-2 digital product scrum teams.
  • Informative source of escalation and information a variety of clients including peers in Digital Products, collaborators across PPFA, vendors, stakeholders, and senior leaders.
  • Vocal collaborator with fellow Digital Products Scrum Masters and Project Managers. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Required professional experience:
  •  3-5 years of professional work experience on a scrum team, or other experience with successful agile techniques.
  • First-level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I).
  • Knowledge of the agile scrum framework, as well as traditional project management principles and practices.
  • Experience with servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Comfort with balancing multiple priorities, working through ambiguity, and responding calmly to changing organizational priorities.
  • Prior experience in working with Jira or guiding an agile transformation is a strong plus.
  • Established knowledge of software development life cycle models as well as technical acumen and vocabulary to facilitate related discussions.
  • First-level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I).
  • Knowledge of the agile scrum framework, as well as traditional project management principles and practices.
  • Experience with servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
