Sigma’s vision is to create an insight-driven world where people and organizations are transformed for the better by access to data and the insights they discover within it. At Sigma, we are building a cloud-native business intelligence platform that anyone can use -- no programming required. 

Let’s be honest about that last part. Few business tools of any power have been truly easy for non-technical users to pick up. And that’s true in BI, but we’re going to change that. Our Research & Insights team has already uncovered keys for doing just that and we’re looking for a UX Researcher to help us get there. 

One of our goals is to move research further upstream in the product development lifecycle, so our team can more readily identify what to build and how to build it (rather than just test what was already built). This role will include a mix of usability testing and concept testing, along with some customer journey mapping and generative research.  

This role will help Sigma:

  1. Understand our customers more deeply
  2. Do more research and testing earlier in the product development cycle
  3. Do more generative and evaluative research
  4. Increase volume and speed of usability testing
  5. Expand how we can help other departments utilize qualitative and quantitative research findings for their own initiatives

You Will:

  • Work with the Head of Research & Insights to define research priorities 
  • Collaborate with Product Design, Engineering, and PM teams (among others) in gathering requirements for research projects and creating plans to execute against them
  • Use methodologies such as contextual inquiry, user journey mapping, usability tests, quantitative surveys, concept testing, qualitative interviews, and more 
  • Report research findings to rest of department and company
  • Help train other departments on research methodologies so they can perform simple research tasks themselves
  • Do quick and dirty research efforts or mini-studies. We won’t always have the resources to execute ideal research efforts so the ideal candidate will be able to determine what the minimum scope is that we need to get useful insights 
  • Execute recruiting practices to further build our research pool of existing users

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • 5+ years experience leading UX research projects or being the primary researcher
  • Experience doing UX research for SaaS business tools or products with similarly complex workflows
  • Ability to effectively match research methodologies to business problems 
  • Ability to execute a range of research methodologies, especially usability testing and concept testing
  • Excellent at planning and executing UX research studies, from defining scope to documenting learnings
  • Great at communicating research findings, with a focus on quality of communication and not length of report (8 bullet points everyone remembers > 30-slide report that no one does)
  • Willingness to explore different ways to communicate insights to stakeholders beyond a typical research report
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate across departments
  • The ability to resolve ambiguity where needed and move a research project forward
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a desire to really help our customers use Sigma
