Job Purpose 

Who we are

We are building the software which powers our next generation robotic picking and storage solution. This solution is a core component of our Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) which are offered as part of the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP). OSP is being marketed to retailers globally as a world-class platform for grocery fulfilment.

This role will co-lead the CFC Outbound Picking Cluster partnering with the Engineering Manager. CFC Outbound builds the systems responsible for the picking, packing and shipping of orders out of one of the most highly automated warehouse systems in the world. Your product will orchestrate people to perform manual pick operations in perfect harmony with the robots in order to deliver near perfect fulfilment rates, extremely low levels of waste and unparalleled levels of operational efficiency. Expect to be challenged by building a great human / machine interface, tackle tough optimisation problems and build a platform that is flexible enough to support the way the world eats.

How will I spend my days

You will provide product and organisational leadership for one of the warehouse management product teams composed of Product Managers. This role partners directly with the Engineering Manager sharing accountability for key decisions, achieving commitments to the delivery plan and providing constructive challenges to focus effort on the missions that are important for Ocado Technology and its stakeholders.


Product Area

The product area is the Outbound Picking Cluster which includes three teams responsible for picking, manual bagging and order fulfilment planning.

Roles & Responsibilities 


  • In partnership with the Principal Product Manager, build a Product organisation that is both capable of delivering upon today’s commitments and the needs of years to come
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager to inspire and lead your product area to success
  • Develop and lead a high performing team of product people, supporting individuals to thrive and the organisation to succeed
  • Makes timely decisions based on data and a deep understanding of customer and business need
  • Evangelize the product vision so all stakeholders are aligned, have context, and understand where we are going

Product Knowledge

  • See your product through the eyes of your customer, deeply understanding the customer problem and how users experience the whole platform end to end
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create a roadmap that meets the customer needs while being technically implementable, testable, and maintainable
  • Use a strong understanding of the current market forces, potential future trends and what is achievable in your product area to influence product strategy

Prioritisation & Validation

  • Balance competing priorities to maximise value delivered over time
  • Establish appropriate processes for feedback gathering and sharing of information with key business leaders and customer representatives
  • Spot future risks, mitigating against them or escalating as necessary
  • Accountable for tracking, reporting and forecasting for your area and communicating this to senior leadership

Stakeholder Management

  • Communicate with large audiences and senior stakeholders, in an engaging way, discerning appropriate detail and cadence
  • Facilitate effectively to achieve agreement with groups of external and/or senior stakeholders who may have different goals or motivations
  • Put in place processes and practices to enable effective communication with stakeholders
  • Coach team members in communicating with clarity 


Problem Solving

  • Use fast feedback loops and experimentation to find fit for purpose solutions
  • Create opportunities for your product team to grow their skills in gaining customer insight
  • Provide clarity to your product teams to focus them on the most important problems that deliver value against the key business metrics in their product area

Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Good understanding of product management and product leadership
  • Experience of leading and coaching others within a large Technology organisation
  • Ability to communicate confidently with senior stakeholders

  • Ability to plan, mange, track and deliver on commitments
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, leadership and influencing skills
  • Ability to see the big picture, without losing sight of the product details
  • Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written


  • Experience in building and leading high performing teams
  • Experience working in a data rich product environment
  • Defining product roadmaps, working collaboratively with UX design and Engineering peers
  • Experience taking ownership of multiple products at one time
  • Experience of building disruptive B2B SaaS platforms
