We’re looking for an experienced Director of Product Design to play a key leadership role, improving student outcomes and increasing partner value, by creating a compelling and intuitive user experience that enables student success. As an inspiring people leader, you’ll recruit, hire, nurture, and guide a distributed product design team. As a senior leader in technology, you’ll play a key role at the formative stage of StraighterLine’s next level of growth. General Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality user experiences that improve usability, drive student engagement, and lead to better outcomes
  • Grow, lead, and inspire a team of high-performing product designers by communicating a vision, providing direction, and mentorship
  • Drive excellence through collaboration with product managers, engineers, researchers, marketing, sales, and other stakeholders to identify business opportunities and user needs
  • Promote and champion informed decision-making, including quantitative and qualitative research practices
  • Balance strategic and operational work across the team by understanding and communicating trade-offs, coordinating resources, and negotiating with stakeholders
  • Cultivate positive relationships with executive stakeholders, peers, customers, and partners in order to ensure alignment and quality delivery of a wholistic and extraordinary end-to-end user experience
  • Develop and drive standards for design excellence in all areas including ideation processes, strategy, interaction design, prototyping, and visual design

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • You’ve been a designer yourself and are familiar with design organizations’ challenges in growing technology-focused SaaS companies
  • You‘ve managed teams before and have experience elevating teams to do their best work that ultimately gets shipped to users
  • You‘re an inspiring character and can facilitate large groups of people through the design process that leads to organizational alignment
  • You are an excellent communicator with strong analytical abilities, conflict resolution, and the ability to work well across various organization levels
  • You’ve successfully grown designers at all levels, ranging from junior to more senior designers, providing clear paths for career growth
  • You can effectively partner with stakeholders from other parts of the company, such as Customer Success, Sales, Product Management, and Engineering, leading major cross-functional initiatives
  • You have a history of delivering high-quality experiences both through the teams you’ve managed and as a product designer

Education and Experience:

  • 8+ years relevant design experience, ideally in enterprise software, SaaS B2C or B2B (Required)
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated success in planning and delivering outstanding products
  • Demonstrated success delivering high-quality work in an agile, fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle within a Software as a Service (SaaS) organization
  • 5+ years of leadership experience with direct people management (required)
  • Experience attracting, hiring, mentoring, and retaining top talent
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times
